Overview

Lockhart Cares’ Youth Empowerment & Outreach Initiative provides trauma‑informed outreach, crisis stabilization, life‑skills development, and family support for vulnerable youth ages 12–24 in Broward County. The Initiative meets youth where they are — in homes, schools, and community spaces — to address basic needs, strengthen family connections, and build pathways toward education, employment, and long‑term stability.

Who we serve

Our outreach team engages with:

  • Youth and young adults ages 12–24

  • Runaway and homeless youth

  • Youth living in unstable or temporary housing

  • Youth at risk of exploitation or trafficking

  • Youth disconnected from school, family, or support systems

We work in neighborhoods, parks, transit areas, community hubs, and other locations where vulnerable youth may gather.

Our Services

Street‑Based Outreach

We provide consistent, compassionate outreach to youth in the community. Our team offers:

  • Safety checks and crisis response

  • Basic needs support (food, water, hygiene kits, clothing)

  • Information on safe shelter and housing options

  • Transportation assistance when appropriate

Crisis Intervention

Our trained staff help youth navigate immediate safety concerns, including:

  • Unsafe living situations

  • Family conflict

  • Exploitation or trafficking risk

  • Emotional distress or trauma

Supportive Services

  • Access to basic necessities such as food, hygiene items, clothing, and transportation

  • Emergency shelter and transitional housing

  • Mental health and counseling services

  • Medical and behavioral health care
